A new look and even more intelligence: EQB upgraded throughout

The updated EQB: the short version

  • Fresh design: black panel surface now with star pattern; new steering wheel
  • Upgraded technology: Plug & Charge; new generation MBUX; updated driving assistance systems
  • High-tech special features: Sound Experiences; Dolby Atmos®

With a striking SUV body, its powerful electric drive and a predictive navigation with Electric Intelligence, the all-electric member of the Mercedes-Benz compact car family has gained many fans. A fresh look, numerous efficiency updates and new, useful features make the EQB even more attractive to newcomers and those switching to electric. MBUX with improved voice control and driving assistance systems are updated. Plug & Charge charging technology, optional Sound Experiences and innovations from Mercedes-Benz electric model siblings are making their way into the compact class.

The updated model year 2024 EQB will arrive at U.S. dealerships first half of 2024.

Updated exterior and interior design

With a newly designed black panel surface with its star pattern1 at the front, the EQB visually catches up with its electric model siblings. A light band connects the daytime running lights of the headlights while a new bumper emphasizes the broad effect of the vehicle front. The designers have also changed the insides of the taillights. The innovations in the interior include the current-generation steering wheel with touch control panels.

Compact outside, spacious inside

As an optional seven-seater, the EQB has room for a wide variety of families and many different transport requirements. The two seats in row three can be used by people up to 5.4 ft. tall or fit child seats. The load volume of 17.4 to 60.4 cu-ft. or 16.4 to 57.2 cu-ft. (for five- and seven-seaters respectively) has the qualities of a mid-size wagon. The backrests of the seats in the second row can be adjusted in several stages as standard, and this row can be moved 5.5 inches lengthwise as an option. This allows the luggage compartment to be enlarged in various steps by up to 6.7 cu-ft. and used in a variety of ways.

Easier and more convenient charging with Plug & Charge

With the Mercedes me Charge2 Plug & Charge function, the latest EQB model can be charged even more conveniently at Plug & Charge-enabled public charging points: When the charging cable is plugged in, the charging process starts automatically and customers do not need to additionally authenticate themselves. The vehicle and charging station communicate directly via the charging cable.

Up to four Sound Experiences

Different sound worlds that allow individual acoustic setups are familiar from the other all-electric models from Mercedes-Benz. Two Sound Experiences are now available for the EQB in conjunction with the optional Burmester® surround sound system. To add an additional level of personalization, two additional Sound Experiences can be purchased and activated online via the Mercedes me store (if equipped with the optional Burmester surround sound system).

Central display as standard

EQB features an updated generation of MBUX. The appearance of the displays can be customized with three display styles (subtle/sporty/classic) and three modes (navigation/assistance/service). As part of the slightly changed offer logic, the central display is part of the standard equipment. The presentation of the charging features within MBUX has been improved as well. By activating online services in the Mercedes me connect app3, the intelligent voice assistant becomes even more capable of dialogue and learning.

Dolby Atmos® optionally available for an immersive audio experience

The optional Burmester® surround sound system, in conjunction with the newer MBUX generation, features the immersive Dolby Atmos® audio experience which gives music more space, clarity and depth. In addition, Dolby Atmos® adapts to the playback environment which enables listeners to hear music almost as clearly as the original vision of the artists in the studio.

Driving assistance systems with improved sensor technology

Improved sensor technology includes a new mono-multipurpose camera and a new backup camera. The optional Driving Assistance package contains improved functions in detail. For example, Active Lane Keeping Assist now works more comfortably with steering intervention instead of ESP.

Net-carbon-neutral production

Since 2022, production at all of Mercedes-Benz's own passenger car and van plants worldwide has been net carbon neutral. This includes the plants in Rastatt (Germany) and Kecskemét (Hungary) responsible for the production of the EQB, as well as the battery plants in Kamenz (Saxony) (Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Accumotive) and in Jawor (Poland). Mercedes-Benz has also made the net-carbon-neutral production of battery cells a key requirement for battery cell partners. This enables the production emissions of a cell to be reduced by around 30%. A further reduction of carbon footprint is targeted through emissions reduction in the cathode material and the use of renewable energies in the production and refinement of raw materials.

Interesting figures; data; facts

The updated EQB: at a glance

With three display styles (classic/sporty/discreet), three modes (navigation/assistance/service) and the 10 color worlds of ambient light, the graphics of the screens can be individualized.

For the first time Sound Experiences are available in combination with the optional Burmester® surround sound system. To add an additional level of personalization, two additional Sound Experiences can be purchased and activated online via the Mercedes me store (if equipped with the optional Burmester surround sound system).

Mercedes me Charge4 provides access to one of the largest charging networks in the world: it currently has over 1.3 million AC and DC charging points including over 75,000 in the U.S.

With the MBUX Zero Layer interface, the user does not have to scroll through submenus or give voice commands. Situationally and contextually, applications are offered on the top level in the field of vision.

Integrated into MBUX, the parking systems can be operated more intuitively and quickly. The Parking Package with 360-degree camera5 supports the driver when parking in and out of longitudinal and transverse parking spaces.

Now with star pattern in black panel grille and trim elements

The updated EQB: design and equipment

  • Black panel grille with star pattern as standard
  • Additional customization options: two paints

With the newly designed black panel surface with star pattern6 at the front, the EQB visually catches up with its model siblings in the all-electric Mercedes-Benz family. Black stars come as standard; with Electric Art and AMG Line the stars are in chrome. A light band connects the daytime running lights of the headlights, providing a night design with a high recognition effect. The new bumper emphasizes the broad effect of the vehicle front. Trim elements in high-gloss black are integrated in the side protrusions, the so-called fog lamp recessed.

The designers have also changed the insides of the taillights and two new paint finishes – starling blue and cirrus silver – complete the model range.

The display styles on the screens have also been revised and adapted to the design of the electric model siblings. For details, see chapter "Up to date with MBUX and driving assistance systems".

Electric intelligence of the model siblings

The updated EQB: more efficiency and range

  • The compact electric models now also gain Sound Experiences
  • New Plug & Charge function for more convenient charging; large charging network

The new "range monitoring" function is helpful in everyday use: if it is activated via MBUX, several options are shown on the central display to save energy. Possible recommendations include the ECO driving program and D Auto as well as to switch to the ECO+ climate control function. Depending on the situation, a maximum driving speed at which an additional charge stop can be avoided is also suggested. This speed is displayed as a red line on the speedometer. Particularly clever: Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC (optional extra) and cruise control driving assistance systems follow the system's speed recommendation using map data and posted speed limit signs identified by the camera.

Up to four Sound Experiences

Different sound worlds that allow individual acoustic setups are familiar from the other electric models from Mercedes-Benz. Now two Sound Experiences are also available for the EQB in conjunction with the optional Burmester® surround sound system. They can be selected in the central display and also switched off. To add an additional level of personalization, two additional Sound Experiences can be purchased and activated online via the Mercedes me store (if equipped with the optional Burmester surround sound system).

The driver and passengers are greeted acoustically as soon as they approach and enter the vehicle. A corresponding Aura sound accompanies the leaving and locking of the EQB. The driving sound, which is reproduced via the loudspeakers of the sound system in the interior, moves within the respective sound world and inspires emotions. At the same time, the driving sound is interactive – reacting to different parameters such as the position of the accelerator pedal, speed or recuperation.

Plug & Charge – easier and more convenient charging

With the Mercedes me Charge7Plug & Charge function, the latest EQB model can be charged even more conveniently at Plug & Charge-enabled public charging points: when the charging cable is plugged in, the charging process starts automatically without customers having to additionally authenticate themselves. The vehicle and the charging station communicate directly via the charging cable, if the customer has activated the Plug & Charge service in the service overview.

Mercedes-Benz and the operators of the charging stations are continuously working on the rollout of Plug & Charge to other charging stations. Whether a charging station is Plug & Charge-compatible can be seen by viewing the charging station details in the vehicle display and in the Mercedes me connect app. It is also possible to search specifically for suitable charging stations. Plug & Charge is the most convenient charging access option. The other three options further allow to approve charging via MBUX in the vehicle's central display, in the Mercedes me connect app or access via the Mercedes me Charge charging card.

Mercedes me Charge offers access to one of the largest charging networks in the world: it currently has over 1.3 million AC and DC charging points including over 75,000 in the U.S. Mercedes me Charge enables its customers to use Green Charging at any public charging station throughout Europe, the U.S. and Canada. Green Charging uses green electricity certificates to ensure that an equivalent amount of electricity from renewable energy sources is fed into the electricity grid for charging processes via Mercedes me Charge if no electricity from renewable energy sources is available yet.

Up to date with MBUX and driver assistance systems

The updated EQB: more connectivity, entertainment and active safety

  • Current MBUX generation with Zero Layer interface and Dolby Atmos® on board
  • Additional vehicle functions can be unlocked via OTA technology
  • Current generation of driver assistance systems improved in sensor technology and functions

The EQB features an updated generation of MBUX. The appearance of the displays can be customized with three display styles (subtle/sporty/classic) and three modes (navigation/assistance/service). In combination with the 10 color worlds of the ambient lighting, there are numerous individualization options. All previous functions such as media, phone, vehicle, etc. are still available. They can be conveniently operated via the touchscreen or the touch control buttons on the steering wheel.

In the course of the slightly changed offer logic, the central display is now part of the standard equipment. The redesign of the infotainment system focused on a new design and improved performance. This includes the zero-layer interface: the user does not have to scroll through submenus or give voice commands. Situationally and contextually, applications are offered on the top layer in the field of view. Smartphones can now connect wirelessly to the vehicle via Apple® CarPlay or Android Auto Wireless. The display of the charging features in MBUX has been improved: for example, the charging flap can be unlocked on the central display via a soft key in the charging menu. Furthermore, the available DC charging power, which depends on the pre-conditioning of the high-voltage battery, is displayed. Other useful information: during the charging process, the recharged range is indicated in miles.

By activating online services in the Mercedes me connect app8 , the intelligent voice assistant becomes even more capable of dialogue and learning. The system gets to know the driver and remembers familiar settings or usual drive routes. It then suggests personalized infotainment, comfort and vehicle functions to suit the respective driving situation. Of course, the driver has overall control and can reject it with the function "Do not suggest now" or deactivate it permanently with "Do not suggest again". The vehicle will remember these requests. Certain actions can also be triggered without saying "Hey Mercedes". The voice assistant can also explain vehicle functions.

The optional Burmester® surround sound system now features the immersive Dolby Atmos® audio experience in conjunction with the current MBUX generation. This feature gives music more space, clarity and depth. In addition, Dolby Atmos® adapts to the playback environment. Listeners can therefore hear music almost as clearly as it corresponds to the original vision of the artists in the studio.

Individualization via the Mercedes me Store

The EQB offers the possibility to activate additional vehicle functions via over-the-air (OTA) technology in a number of functional areas. This means that after purchase and the original configuration of the new car, some equipment can be adjusted according to personal preferences. Systems and additional functions can be activated via OTA technology.

Driving assistance systems9 with improved sensor technology

Improved sensor technology includes a new mono-multipurpose camera and a new backup camera. The Driving Assistance package contains improved functions in detail. For example, Active Lane Keeping Assist now works more comfortably with steering intervention instead of ESP.

Thanks to more powerful environmental sensors, the parking systems can better support the driver when maneuvering. Integrated into MBUX, they can be operated more intuitively and more quickly. The Parking Package with 360-degree camera supports the driver when parking in and out of parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.
