E-Class Technical Highlights

  • 48-Volt onboard electrical system technology with EQ boost (Integrated Starter Generator)
    • The AMG-enhanced 3.0-Liter inline 6 cylinder engine found in the AMG E 53 Coupe is supplemented with a powerful and efficient integrated starter generator and a powerful auxiliary compressor. This integrated electric motor system, known as EQ boost, assists the combustion engine by adding up to 21 hp for short periods. EQ boost also assists when accelerating, makes driving without the combustion engine possible ("sailing") and supplies the battery with power by means of high-efficiency recuperation. By doing so it makes fuel savings possible that were previously the exclusive domain of high-voltage hybrid technology.
  • Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC® is an adaptive Cruise Control system that is able to follow a vehicle in front at a pre-selected distance
  • Active Steering Assist provides steering input and can actively intervene even if road lines are unclear or non-existent at certain speeds; can now function in curves with a tighter radius
  • Active Emergency Stop Assist brakes the vehicle to a standstill in its lane if it detects that the driver is no longer actively driving the vehicle while driving
  • Active Lane Change Assist is a radar-and-camera-based system that aids the driver when changing lanes
  • Active Speed Limit Assist can adapt vehicle speed to identified speed limits and can now adjust preemptively when speed limits are going to change
  • Route-Based Speed Adaptation can reduce the vehicle’s speed in anticipatory mode by referencing the COMAND map data ahead of bends, junctions, roundabouts, toll booths and exit roads
  • Active Brake Assist with Cross-Traffic Function is able to help the driver avoid impending collisions with vehicles ahead, stationary or crossing vehicles and pedestrians if the driver fails to take any action to defuse the dangerous situation
  • Evasive Steering Assist assists the driver by adding calculated steering torque to aid in steering wheel movement when a driver deliberately or instinctively performs an evasive maneuver around a pedestrian
  • Active Blind Spot Assist is able to provide the driver with a visual alert, plus an audible alarm when a turn indicator is actuated, to warn of a side collision with another vehicle, or even bicycles, for example. At higher speeds, one-sided, automatic braking can additionally be applied to help avoid a side collision.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist is able to warn the driver by means of vibrations of the steering wheel when the vehicle is unintentionally drifting out of its lane. If the vehicle passes over a solid line, this system can pull the vehicle back into lane by applying the brakes on one side.
  • PRE-SAFE® Sound: omits a short interference signal if an imminent collision is detected, triggering a protective reflex in the human ear referred to as the "stapedius reflex," which can help reduce hearing loss in the event of an accident
  • Car-to-X communication: the world’s first fully-integral Car-to-X solution going into series production; the E-Class simultaneously acts as a receiver and transmitter, conveying warning messages and evaluating driving conditions, effectively allowing the driver to "see around corners" and "through obstacles"
  • Touch Control Buttons: touch-sensitive controls on the steering wheel for instrument cluster and infotainment system control, similar to a smart-phone interface, which respond to vertical and horizontal swiping movements

Model Positioning

  • With expressive proportions, clear and sensual design and long-distance comfort for four people, the new E-Class Coupe combines the beauty and classic virtues of a grand tourer with state-of-the-art technology. The Mercedes-AMG E-Class Coupe is also among the first vehicles in the Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes- AMG lineup with 48-volt technology that offers increased efficiency and comfort.
